Message from Her Excellency the President
of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka

Youth will undoubtedly play a decisive role in all aspects of life in the Third Millennium. Developments in the area of economics, trade industry, science and technology will shape the new world of the future. The beneficiaries of such development would be the youth.

The youth of the world would also have a heavy responsibility in seeking practical solutions to the problems of the new world. Peace, poverty alleviation and protection of the environment would undoubtedly play a prominent role in their agenda for the future.

Youth in Sri Lanka have been a catalyst for change. Socio-economic and development policies of Sri Lanka increasingly take into consideration the needs and concerns of the youth. Under our National Youth Policy, Youth Empowerment Centres have been established which train and guide the youth of Sri Lanka to create opportunities for their self growth. This contributes immensely to the social and economic development of the country. The vital contribution of the youth of Sri Lanka will play a key role in advancing development and bringing about peace and prosperity to our country in the Third Millennium.
