Youth play an important role in the economic and social development of every country in the world. To this end, Malaysia supports the "Youth for the Future" initiative and commends the High Level Review Group (HLRG) on its efforts to establish a pan-Commonwealth Youth for the Future.

A highly motivated younger generation has numerous potentials, skills, knowledge and energy to be tapped. Malaysia believes that the four schemes of youth volunteering, youth mentoring, youth leadership awards and youth enterprise would facilitate the transfer of much needed skills and knowledge for their development. This would empower youth with the means to take charge of their lives and transform their societies in a positive way.
