Commonwealth Flags Competition Launched
How many countries are there in the Commonwealth? When was the
modern Commonwealth formed?
If you go to a Queensland school and think you know or can find
out the answers to these and eight other questions, then you stand
a good chance of winning one of the national flags for the Commonwealth
Heads of Government Meeting.
The Australian CHOGM spokesman, Andrew Reynolds, has announced
that a Queensland School Competition will be conducted from today
until all available flags are won.
"As a gesture to the young people of Queensland, the Australian
Government decided to provide the opportunity for the 54 national
flags used at the CHOGM to go to Queensland schools," Mr Reynolds
said.
"Twenty of the flags were won by Queensland schools up until
the postponement of the Brisbane event.
"Individuals, small groups or classes from Queensland schools
are eligible to enter on behalf of their school. All they have to
do is to successfully complete the questionnaire on the CHOGM 2002
website at www.chogm2002.or/class/flag_com.cfm," he said.
Mr Reynolds said that all the information required to achieve a
perfect score is available on the website and the first correct
entries will be awarded one of the flags. Winners will be able to
nominate a country of interest although no guarantees can be given.
"The competition will enable teachers to provide a focus to
any classroom discussions on CHOGM and the modern Commonwealth,"
Mr Reynolds said.
